What to do with the kids this summer in Columbus, Ohio

Ok, summer is finally here!  The kids are out of school….. now what?  Some of my friends will find this post amusing because I don’t have kids.  I have grand kids (which always gets a chuckle) and I myself am still a kid at heart.  I have more toys at my house than some parents… ok maybe not but I have a lot of toys for kids.  My philosophy is… if I can keep the kids entertained then the parents will come over to visit more often.  Also, I admit it, I love toys.

So, I have many friends with kids so I hear about the challenge to find fun, inexpensive things to do with kids in Columbus.

I also have included a few things below I heard on the golf course last nice during my Shady Ladies golf league.  Feel free to add comments with your own ideas.

Activities at Wellington School in Upper Arlington

Upper Arlington Parks and Rec Summer Program for kids and teens

I came also across this tweet today from Columbus Underground that I wanted to share with patients and friends.  Kids Summer Class and Camp RoundUp

Grandview Parks and Rec Summer Program

And another good website to check out is Kidslinked.com the source for local kids activities and events and Kidslinked Columbus Summer Fun Guide

Helping your child brush their teeth

It’s important to get your child interested in brushing their teeth at a young age because this will build good habits for the future.

Most children don’t have enough coordination to properly brush their own teeth until the age of 7 so it’s important for you to supervise the process as well as help out to insure they are covering all the areas and to minimize the swallowing of toothpaste.

  • Brush your child’s teeth twice per day for about 2 minutes each time
  • Use a toothbrush designed for the age of your child
  • Place a pea-size amount of toothpaste on the brush
  • Clean each tooth with a gentle circular motion
  • Make sure you clean all the surfaces of their teeth and clean right up to the gum line
  • After brushing, encourage your child to spit all of the toothpaste out to minimize swallowing

Getting a child to brush properly twice per day for 2 minutes can be easier said than done but here are some fun tooth brushing activites to help.
