Small Space Gardening for Edibles

It’s that time of year again!  It’s time to plant the vegetable garden.  Since we are in the midst of landscaping our house we have planted a raised bed mostly with herbs and lettuces but my wife planted some Sugar Snap Peas and radishes and the squirrels didn’t get all of the seeds so we have some plants growing.

We did a 1/2 plot in Wallace Gardens last year and found that it was too much work even if it was just down the street.  We smile when we drive by the Gardens now… smile because we don’t have to go tend to the weeds and watering.  We can go home… and tend to various house projects.

As we plan out our landscaping we want to plan some space for tomatoes and a few vegetables in amongst our other landscaping plants.  There are  a lot of creative ideas out there for those of us without a large lot.  See the link below for some ideas.

Having a healthy mouth is important to a person’s overall well being.  As you know the office staff at Grandview Dental Care is compromised of all women….. except for Dr. T.  We all like to snack and are constantly on the lookout for things that taste good, are quick, and have some redeeming value from a health perspective.

Women’s Health Magazine has just put out their 2nd annual 125 Best Pre-Packaged Foods.  http://www.womenshealthmag.com/nutrition/premium-packaged-foods Check it out and let us know your favorites.

Some of our office favorites which may or may not be on this year’s list:

  • Doctor Kracker Snack Chips (amazon.com)
  • Fiber One Granola Bars
  • Glenny’s 100 Calorie Brownie
  • Zone Perfect Snack Bar (80 calories)
  • Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches

If you are concerned about what you put in your mouth, make sure you are also as concerned about taking care of your smile health too by scheduling regular visits at your dentist.

How do you brush a dog’s teeth?

Sit Pretty PradaWe have recently welcomed a dog into our home. Prada is a 5 year old Black Lab/Greyhound mix.  She’s fun to watch run since you expect her to run like a lab but then you see she runs like a Greyhound.  She is a sweet dog and we give her lots of attention and spoil her with Homemade Frosty Paws that we freeze in the red Kong toys.

On a recent visit to the Vet, Prada had her teeth inspected and we were told she has very clean teeth for a dog.  So, how do you take care of a dog’s teeth?  My wife Becky likes to think it’s the Frosty Paws in the Kong but in asking the vet we were told that if you brush a dog’s teeth once per month, you are doing them a world of good.

How do you brush a dog’s teeth?  We were told to use a child’s size toothbrush and some Doggy Toothpaste that comes in unique flavors like… liver.  So far we have had limited success brushing Prada’s teeth but I’ll keep you posted.  And rest assured we have no plans to offer liver flavored toothpaste at your next visit.
