What is better for my smile? Invisalign or Veneers?

That question is impossible to answer without a Smile Consultation with a dentist that is experienced with both solutions to a straighter smile, Invisalign Orthodontics and veneers.

Are you going to a Columbus cosmetic dentist that can offer you the best solution for your smile situation? If your dentist can’t do both Invisalign and veneers, how do you know?
Some patients want veneers because the treatment doesn’t take as long as orthodontics.   They want a straighter smile, and they want it now!  Invisalign takes an average of 12 months but some cases take as little as 6 months.  Veneers in our office can be done in some cases, in just one appointment using our Cerec CAD-CAM machine.
But if you have nicely shaped teeth, a better option maybe to use Invisalign and not put a veneer over nicely shaped teeth.  Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners so no one realizes you are straightening your teeth.
It all starts with smile consultation which we offer as a complimentary service to someone that is looking to improve their smile.  Dr. Thompson will take the time to talk with you and understand what you want an explain to you with actual patient photos what is possible for your smile.

In the end the choice is yours!

But if you don’t know all the possible options, how do you make the right decision?  When seeking a smile makeover, make sure the cosmetic dentist you visit can do all sorts of cosmetic treatments to get the right smile for you.  After all, you don’t really want chiclet teeth, do you?

Invisalign Teen was designed to meet the specific needs of the non-adult comprehensive treatment market….. yes I got this material from an Invisalign Teen press release.

Dr. Thompson has treated teenage patients with traditonal Invisalign in the past as long as the teen

  • had all their adult teeth
  • had top teeth in front of their bottom teeth(in the dental world known as a class 1 occlusion)
  • and understood and was responsible enough to wear the Invisalign aligners at all times.

Invisalign orthodontics has been used by general dentists and orthodontists on more that 3/4 of a million patients since it was introduced.  In 2008, Invisalign introduced Invisalign Teen to address specific orthodontic issues related to teens.

Dr. Thompson has been using Invisalign since 2002 and has treated over 140 patients with it.  He is now able to use this new Invisalign product, Invisalign teen.  Only a limited number of general dentists in Columbus Ohio can treat patients with Invisalign teen.  Based on Dr. Thompson’s experience with Invisalign and his use of traditional orthodontics in the past, he was selected to provide the Invisalign Teen solution.

Imagine looking great in your school pictures while you are straightening your smile.  You can’t say that about traditional braces with all those ugly brackets and wires.  Read the rest of this entry »

Does Invisalign Orthodontics Work?

Yes Invisalign works however it doesn’t work for everyone.  To determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign, schedule a Free Smile Consultation to find out.

A large factor in the success of Invisalign treatment is Patient Compliance which means the patient must wear their Invisalign aligners 24/7 except to eat or drink.  Also the patient must come in about every 4 weeks for a check appointment to get more aligners and to make sure everything is progressing as it should.

Dr. Thompson has been treating patients with Invisalign since 2002 and has successfully treated over 125 patients using Invisalign.  At your appointment ask to see befores and afters of other Invisalign patients.  Chances are, he’s already seen a patient with your same situation and can show you pictures or even a Clincheck.(Search on clincheck in the blog to see an example of what it is)

With Invisalign, you get to see a computer generated animation of your teeth as they moved with each different aligner.  This is called a Clincheck.  So, you get to see how your teeth move with Invisalign before committing to treatment.

So, what is holding you back from getting a straighter smile?

What is an Invisalign Clincheck?

If you are interested in straightening your teeth, Invisalign is a terrific option for many people.  Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of clear, plastic aligners that may remind you of a retainer.

Invisalign is clear, removable, and comfortable.  And you get to see the results of your Invisalign treatment before you commit to the cost and time.   How do you see these results?  With an Invisalign Clincheck “movie”. invisalign-clincheck-1

The first step in creating a Invisalign Clincheck is to schedule a Free Smile Consultation appointment so that we can determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign.  Relax, Invisalign can straighten the majority of smiles but we need to see your smile and determine what you want first.

If you are ready to move forward after your Smile Consultation we schedule you back so that we can take all the necessary records (impressions of your teeth, photos, xrays, etc) and then we send this information along with the doctors treatment plan to Invisalign.

In about a week, Invisalign produces the Clincheck, a short movie animation of your teeth and how they will be moved with Invisalign.  You come back to our office and view this movie with Dr. Thompson.  For an example of what a Clincheck looks like, click here. invisalign-clincheck-1

After the Clincheck is produced you will see what Invisalign will do and how long it takes before you have to financially commit to treatment.
