One of our patients created these stickers where you can “Show your Grandview Pride”. Take our flossing Poll and get your own!

We have a limited number and due to demand we are asking that you take our Flossing Poll if you are requesting a sticker.  The Poll is 1 Question, is anonymous and will take 1 second and don’t you want to know if everyone else has the same flossing habits as you?

Stop by our office or send Becky an email to get your sticker

Application Instructions for best results:

Only apply the sticker to a clean, dry, smooth surface at a temperature above 50 degrees.  Should be no problem right now.

Depending upon the humidity level, stickers may “curl” while they are still on the paper backing.  This curling doesn’t affect the durability of the sticker and will disappear when the sticker is removed from the backing and installed.

Everybody Needs a Dentist

Dental Health, New PatientsNo Comments

It’s a simple statement.  It’s a true statement.  Yet about 50% of the US population doesn’t have a dentist.

For you dental regulars…. I realize you are probably gasping in disbelief but it’s true.  Do your own survey amongst your co-workers and see what the response is.

So why do I think Everybody Needs a Dentist?  Ok, I am the wife of a dentist but everybody starts out early in life with teeth, right?  And guess what, those that don’t have teeth now and have to suffer with dentures or missing multiple teeth probably didn’t visit the dentist very often.

So, if you haven’t been to the dentist in while, even if “everything feels fine”, make an appointment with one today to get things checked out.  Don’t be embarrased by how long it’s been, we’ve seen it all before and we don’t care what your reasons are.  They were valid to you at the time.  We are just happy to see you taking charge of your dental health and paying a dentist a visit.

Why would I want to follow my dentist on Twitter?

Well, first question first.  Do you use Twitter?  If not, you might find the whole twitter thing to be just a bunch of people telling each other that they just ordered a Large coffee at Stauf’s.  And that does go on. For Twitter 101, see this post.

In my opinion Twitter is all about connecting with people that have similar interests as you do.  It’s also about conversations.  If you follow people that have similar interests they will “tweet” about it and perhaps include a nifty link in their tweet which will give you more info.

What are our tweets about from Grandview Dental Care?

  • As you would expect we tweet about dental care with perhaps a link back to our blog or some other dental website.  It might be how to combat a toothache at 2 AM, or a video on how to floss or some new procedure we are offering at our office.
  • Allow patients to ask questions or give us feedback which some businesses feel is a scary thing about social media.  We want to know if we have (or haven’t) met your expectations so that we can try to correct the situation.
  • We also tweet about special discounts in our office
  • We have contests and giveaways that include tickets to local events (hey, we are trying to make a dental office fun here) – We have 2 tickets to the Pretender’s show on Aug 16th which we will be Tweeting the details on how you could win them.  That’s reason enough to follow us….
  • Local Columbus and Grandview Events
  • Recognize our patients and fellow Grandview Business neighbors
  • Pictures and videos about staff stuff
  • Recipes or other food/wine related stuff
  • Stuff about overall health and fitness

Who is doing the “tweeting” for Grandview Dental Care?  – Dr. Thompson’s wife Becky who is very active in the practice and also is the primary writer of the blog posts.

So, if any of this sounds good to you… you can follow us on Twitter.

So you are wondering what this whole Twitter thing is all about.  Well, I am no expert but I am fairly new to the Twitter scene so I am providing info that helped me get started and understand the value(and fun) of Twitter.

  • First you go to Twitter.com and sign up.
  • The Twitter.com interface doesn’t have many neat features so I recommend going to tweetdeck.com and using their software to interact with your twitter friends.
  • Find some people that have similar interests as you.  You can do this by using the search feature in tweetdeck or go to http://search.twitter.com/advanced which actually has some nice features like searching by location.
  • Start following some people.
  • When you find something you like around town or on the internet…. tweet about it.
  • I have already used twitter to post a complaint about a Local Internet Search company we were doing business with.  I got a reply tweet from their CEO in less than an hour and eventually we came to a compromise on resolving my issue.  Pretty Cool!
  • This was my first Twitter 101 guides I used.  I follow Ron Jones(@Ron_Jones), the guy that wrote them and he’s very helpful

Twitter 101 Part 1 – http://searchenginewatch.com/3633223

Twitter 101 Part 2 – http://searchenginewatch.com/3633276

Twitter 101 Part 3 – http://searchenginewatch.com/3633390

  • You will see a bunch of special characters people use sometimes when they tweet.  See the Twitter 101Part 2 article mentioned above.
  • Have fun, learn as you go and participate in the social media conversation!

So, are you wondering why you would want to follow your dentist on Twitter?  See this our blog post Why would I want to follow my dentist on Twitter?

What to do when your kid does a face plant. Tooth loss First Aid.

Step OneDon’t Panic.  Of course, that’s what we parents/caregivers do naturally, but keep in mind that a blow to the head or the mouth usually looks far worse than it really is.  There will likely be blood, but the child will be less frightened if you stay clam and in control.  Allow the child to hold a  cloth/paper towel with cool water on it  in or on his mouth.

Step Two…Try your best to get a look in the mouth to see if there are any broken teeth.  If a whole tooth is missing, collect it to take with you. Do not handle the tooth by the roots, only hold the tooth by the top and do not rub or scape the tooth in an effort to “clean” it. This can damage the root surface, making it less likely to survive.

Step Three…Try to replace the tooth in the socket. If it does not go all the way into place, have the child bite down gently on gauze or a moistened paper towel to help keep it in place.  Hold the tooth in place until you see your dentist. If you cannot replace the tooth in the socket, place it in whole milk,  your child’s saliva, or a mild saltwater solution.  You will want to take the tooth with you when you visit the dentist.

Step Four… Contact your dentist immediately.  Most offices have an emergency after hours number and your dentist is going to want to see the child just to make sure things are all right.  If you can’t get to the dentist, go to an emergency room.

Rest in knowing that baby teeth naturally replenish themselves and remember that there are several solutions to repair a broken tooth and to replace a lost tooth. Kid face plants are a very common thing with children(especially last week for some reason).  This makes it very likely that your dentist has had lots of experience in this area! Also keep in mind that if your child participates in contact sports, tooth loss can often be prevented by having your child fitted for a mouth guard!
